About

The Human Behind the Code

My journey began with a simple yet profound lesson from my father: be curious, ask questions, and seek to understand the deeper structures of things. This early foundation shaped me into someone who looks beyond surface-level explanations, always searching for the underlying "how" and "why" of everything I encounter. It's this curiosity that has driven both my personal growth and professional evolution.

Personal Journey and Professional Path

As a father of five adult children, ranging from 18 to 30, I've learned that life's greatest lessons often come from the experiences we share with those closest to us. Though my roots began in California, I've called Colorado home for more than half my life, finding inspiration in its majestic landscapes and dynamic tech community.

My three-decade journey in technology has been one of continuous evolution and specialization. From diving deep into Cloud Architecture and Operations with AWS to mastering Systems Engineering across Linux and UNIX platforms, and developing expertise in Storage Engineering with industry leaders like NetApp, EMC, and IBM, each role has added new dimensions to my technical perspective. This journey hasn't been just about accumulating technical knowledge -- it's about understanding how technology can be wielded to solve real-world challenges.

Life has taught me valuable lessons about resilience and adaptation. Living with Cryptogenic Organizing Pneumonia has given me unique perspectives on facing challenges. These experiences have reinforced my belief that our greatest strengths often emerge from our most significant challenges, shaping both my personal outlook and professional approach to problem-solving.

Balance and Growth

While technology is my professional canvas, I find balance in diverse pursuits. As a student of Hawaiian Kenpō Karate, I've learned that life, like martial arts, is about flow - understanding how to redirect challenges into opportunities. This mindset shapes my belief that no problem is truly unsolvable - it's often just a matter of viewing it from different angles. This philosophy extends beyond the dojo into how I approach problem-solving in all aspects of life.

My passion for science fiction - from Star Trek to Dune - reflects my belief in our boundless potential. Just as Arthur C. Clarke's visionary writing preceded our first steps on the moon, I believe in challenging the frontiers of possibility while maintaining a pragmatic foundation. These stories remind us that today's impossible dreams often become tomorrow's reality - a philosophy that drives my approach to innovation and problem-solving.

Global Perspective

My journeys across the Americas, Europe, and Asia have profoundly shaped my worldview. From the technology hubs of Singapore to the diverse landscapes of Chile and Brazil, each destination has offered unique insights. Time spent in places like The Bahamas, Belize, and Honduras revealed stark contrasts in technological access and opportunities. These experiences fuel my commitment to using technology not just for profit, but as a tool for meaningful impact and collective progress.

Values and Vision

I'm a pragmatic idealist who believes in balancing innovation with responsibility. My vision for the future includes advancing human exploration of our solar system - from establishing a sustainable presence on the Moon to reaching Mars and studying distant worlds. I believe that developing renewable energy sources and unlocking the potential of nuclear fusion will be key to powering this future. Technology should serve humanity's needs first, fostering equality and addressing fundamental challenges like climate change and social inequality.

When I'm not working with technology, you might find me analyzing the latest sci-fi film, practicing martial arts, or exploring new places. Each experience, whether in the dojo or discovering different cultures, reinforces my belief that continuous learning and adaptation are key to both personal growth and professional excellence.
